IBM PowerKVM 2.1.1 Images --------------------------- Typically, the following types of images are available for you to apply to the IBM PowerKVM product: * Updated (Full) installation images, following the pattern ibm-powerkvm-2.1.1.*.iso * Critical updates image, following the pattern ibm-powerkvm-updates-2.1.1.*.iso * Image containing debuginfo packages, following the pattern ibm-powerkvm-debuginfo-2.1.1.*.iso (Full) Installation Images ---------------------------------- These are bootable images, containing the most recent updates to the product. You can use them in two ways: 1) You can use the images for new installations or re-installations of PowerKVM on your system 2) You can use the images for upgrading existing IBM PowerKVM 2.1.0 installations to IBM PowerKVM 2.1.1. This is a one time procedure. Please refer to "Upgrading from IBM PowerKVM 2.1.0 to IBM PowerKVM 2.1.1" below, or http://www-01.ibm.com/support/knowledgecenter/linuxonibm/liabp/liabpupgradepkvm.htm These full installation images are only available through Electronic Subscription Services at http://www-304.ibm.com/servers/eserver/ess/index.wss?lnk=msdDO-enss-usen Critical Updates Images ------------------------ These are non bootable images, containing only the most recent (cumulative) package updates to the IBM PowerKVM product. You can provide the images to the ibm-update-system tool on an existing live system with IBM PowerKVM. The ibm-update-system tool applies the latest updates and fixes. Please check the "Updating an existing IBM PowerKVM system" section, below. debuginfo Packages Image ------------------------- These images contain debuginfo binary packages. You'll use these packages only when debugging or collecting data to use for a service call. Usage instructions ------------------ 1) Installing or re-installing IBM PowerKVM: * Download the corresponding ibm-powerkvm-2.1.1.*.iso image and proceed as instructed in the product documentation at https://ibm.biz/BdR7Tr. 2) Updating an existing IBM PowerKVM 2.1.1 system: a) Minimal requirements: - IBM PowerKVM 2.1.1.0.22.0 (GA) installed in your system Attention: If you are currently running IBM PowerKVM 2.1.0, please proceed to the one time procedure described at "Upgrading from IBM PowerKVM 2.1.0 to IBM PowerKVM 2.1.1" below. b) These update images are only needed if your IBM PowerKVM system can't directly reach out to ibm.com. In case your IBM PowerKVM system can reach out to ibm.com, you do not need to proceed with this method. The preferred methods are either through the yum tool or the Kimchi update feature, which do not require any additional setup/configuration. Please check the product documentation at http://www-01.ibm.com/support/knowledgecenter/linuxonibm/liabp/liabpupdatesystem.htm for more information c) In case your IBM PowerKVM system can't reach out to ibm.com, proceed with downloading the corresponding ibm-powerkvm-updates-2.1.1.*.iso at Fix Central. Because updates are cumulative, there is no distinction, in terms of updating your system, across these two types of images. Use the most recent image of either type. d) Before you update IBM PowerKVM, power off any guest virtual machines and stop any workloads. You are required to restart your system after you apply any updates. e) Once you have the IBM PowerKVM image that contains the desired update and transfered it to a location of your choice in the IBM PowerKVM sytem, proceed with: # ibm-update-system --iso-path=path_to_file (Replace path_to_file with the path to the ISO file containing the updates) f) Review the packages marked for update, and agree by entering Y. 3) Upgrading from IBM PowerKVM 2.1.0 to IBM PowerKVM 2.1.1 a) Minimal requirements: - IBM PowerKVM 2.1.0.2-32.0 or newer Installed in your system - IBM PowerKVM 2.1.1.0-22.0 or newer (Full) Installation ISO Images b) Download the IBM PowerKVM 2.1.1 (Full) Installation ISO image from Electronic Subscription Services at http://www-304.ibm.com/servers/eserver/ess/index.wss?lnk=msdDO-enss-usen and upload this ISO image to your IBM PowerKVM system, in a location of your choice. b) Run the following command: # ibm-update-system --upgrade --iso-path= (Replace path_to_file with the path to the ISO file containing the updates.) c) Review the packages marked for upgrade, and agree by entering Y. d) This is a one time procedure.
