You can also use this package to install a clean version of HMC V7R7.5.0. You can reference this package by APAR MB03608. Important Information for HMCs using Kerberos authentication There is a known issue at HMC 7.7.5 where some HMC user profiles that authenticate via Kerberos are unable to login. The user profiles are impacted only if the following are true: 1. The HMC user id is configured for Kerberos Authentication; either direct or via LDAP remote user management. 2. The HMC user id name is different than the "Remote user id" name (kerberos principal). For example HMC user "user" has a remote user id name of "userk@Z.COM". Administrators that make use of this type of kerberos configuration may wish to delay the upgrade to 7.7.5. For further information and current status please contact your support representative. During a recovery situation requiring a restore of critical console data, the HMC V7R750 recovery media should be installed followed immediately by the installation of the mandatory PTF MH01312. After the HMC has rebooted, the critical console data can be restored by selecting the "HMC Management" menu, and then the "Restore HMC Data" submenu. PTF MH01312 is required in order to restore the HMC backup data successfully. /Package information/ Package Name Size Checksum APAR# PTF# HMC_Recovery_V7R750_1.iso 1948102656 6df96da5f0df433809e2ebf1fbc7cb1413d49f5e MB03608 MH01311 HMC_Recovery_V7R750_2.iso 1636511744 9e3b0b34a3a2b798c7d7204d6252fa5a4cf2afcb Splash Panel information (or lshmc -V output) Version: 7 Release: 7.5.0 Service Pack: 0 HMC Build level 20120418.1 ","base_version=V7R7.5.0 " Hints and tips for HMC V7 R7.5.0 Network installation The use of the *getupgfiles* CLI to perform network installations or upgrades only supports moving to newer releases. Using the new web-based user interface This user interface is comprised of several major components: the Banner, the Task bar, the Navigation pane, the Work pane, and the Status bar. The Banner, across the top of the workplace window, identifies the product and logo. It is optionally displayed and is set by using the *Change User Interface Settings* task. The Task bar, located below the Banner, displays the name(s) of any tasks that are running, the user ID you are logged in as, online help information, and the ability to logoff or disconnect from the console. The Navigation pane, in the left portion of the window, contains the primary navigation links for managing your system resources and the Hardware Management Console. The items are referred to as nodes. The Work pane, in the right portion of the window, displays information based on the current selection from the Navigation pane. For example, when *Welcome* is selected in the Navigation pane, the Welcome window content is displayed in the Work pane. The Status bar, in the bottom left portion of the window, provides visual indicators of current overall system status. It also contains a status overview icon which may be selected to display more detailed status information in the Work pane. The /System p Operations Guide for the Hardware Management Console and Managed Systems/ can be accessed online on the HMC. Select *Welcome* in the Navigation pane to display Welcome window content in the Work pane. Select *HMC Operations Guide* to view it. Additional education, support, tutorial and technical information can also be accessed online on the HMC. Select *Welcome* in the Navigation pane to display Welcome window content in the Work pane. Select *Online Information* to view it. To log on the HMC from a remote browser, the HMC must first be configured for web browser access. See Appendix C of the /System p Operations Guide for the Hardware Management Console and Managed Systems/ for instructions on how to configure the HMC for remote web browser access. After the HMC has been properly configured, from your web browser enter the URL of the HMC using the format /https://xxx.xxx.xxx.xxx/. It is important to read the "Logging on the HMC from a LAN connected Web browser" section in Appendix C. Security warnings may be presented to your Web browser and the issues related to certificate management should be understood before you use this function, so that you can perform the appropriate actions. Upgrade hints Certificates and keyring files generated by the System Manager Security application (on HMC Version 6) will not be migrated to HMC Version 7. Applications such as remote 5250, which import the public key ring file to establish a secure connection with HMC, will need to import a new public key ring file. The new file, *SM.pubkr*, will be generated and stored on HMC V7 under the /opt/ccfw/data directory. You can copy this file by using the *scp* or *sendfile* command. For further information on how to set up remote 5250 using SSL, see the following support document: Version 7 HMC: Configuring SSL Remote 5250 Console Connection Back to top <#ibm-content> Upgrade notes * HMC Model 7310-C03 cannot be upgraded to HMC Version 7.7. This restriction is enforced in V7R7.5. * If an HMC is used to manage any POWER7 processor based server, the HMC must be a model CR3 or later model rack-mount HMC or C05 or later deskside HMC. * When IBM Systems Director is used to manage an HMC or if the HMC manages more than 254 partitions, the HMC should have 3GB of RAM minimum and be CR3 model or later rack-mount or C06 or later deskside. * HMC Version 7.7.1 supports managing a maximum of 48 servers (non Power 590/595 models) or 32 IBM Power 590/595 servers with a maximum of 1024 partitions across the managed servers. * The following HMC System Plan functions are not implemented for POWER7 servers: o Create system plan (mksysplan) capture of VIOS provisioning info (storage pools, etherchannels, shared ethernet adapters) o Deploy system plan Auto-install of VIOS, AIX and Linux partitions. o Auto-provisioning of storage pools, shared ethernet adapters and etherchannels by system plan deployment. * Upgrading from HMC V6R1.3 requires the installing of PTF MH01127 (APAR MB02828). * Upgrading from HMC V7R3.1.0 requires PTF MH01135 (APAR MB02661). * The DHCP range choices of 9.6.24.x and 9.6.25.x are no longer available as DHCP server range selections in the HMC GUI for V7. The POWER 595 FHA/FHB system internal network utilizes this range. If a V6 HMC is upgraded to V7 and a POWER 595/FHA system addition is planned, change the range to an alternate available selection prior to introducing the system to the HMC. For all other system environments the range can still be used but is not visible in the GUI. As a result, the suspended partition's virtual storage is exposed to accidental reassignment while it is suspended. This release introduces HMC enhancements to the suspend partition operation that make use of new VIOS protection support for the suspended partition's virtual storage devices. Virtual storage protection is now required by default when suspending a partition, and the suspend operation succeeds if the hosting VIOS partitions are capable of providing this protection. Otherwise, if any hosting VIOS is not capable (for example, if it is older than version 2.2.1.4), the suspend operation can succeed only if you use the chlparstate command and if you specify a value of 2 with the new --protectstorage option. Specifying a value of 2 with the --protectstorage option means that you assume responsibility for ensuring the integrity of the partition's virtual storage devices while it is suspended. Migration of a suspended partition removes the virtual storage device protection provided by the source VIOS partitions, exposing the partition to accidental reassignment of its virtual storage devices as long as it remains suspended on the destination server. Since there is no way to prevent this exposure, it is recommended that you resume a suspended partition before migrating it. You can use the new --protectstorage option with the migrlpar command to allow a suspended partition to be migrated. The migrlpar operation can succeed in migrating a suspended partition only if you specify a value of 2 with the --protectstorage option, but doing this means that you assume responsibility for ensuring the integrity of the partition's virtual storage devices once the partition is migrated and as long as it remains suspended on the destination managed system. Back to top <#ibm-content> Repair and Verify fixes for POWER 750, 755, 770 and 780 servers (POWER7-based technology) * Added new panels to both the BPCH and DCA. * Corrected a problem on Initialize Frame(s) procedure where I/O Enclosures are not powered on and the managed system is not able to associate ownership with the I/O Enclosures. A suspended partition can no longer be migrated unless this new option is specified. * A new option, *--protectstorage*, has been added to the *chlparstate* command. A partition can no longer be suspended unless the virtual I/O servers that host the partition's virtual storage devices are upgraded to a level that supports the reporting of the virtual storage device usage of suspended partitions, or this new option is specified. * The following commands have been enhanced to support IBM i restricted I/O mode, which is needed for IBM i partition migration: *chsyscfg*, *lssyscfg*, and *mksyscfg*. * The *cpfile* command has been added to allow you to copy a file used for IBM Smart Analytics System (ISAS) problem reporting on and off the HMC. * The following commands have been enhanced to support rsyslog: *chhmc*, *lshmc*, and *getfile*. * The *lshmcusr* command has been enhanced to display whether or not a user ID has been disabled because its password has expired. * The *lshmcldap* command has been enhanced to display whether or not a LDAP Certificate Authority (CA) certificate file has been deployed on the HMC. * The *chhmcfs* and *lshmcfs* commands have been enhanced to include the HMC trace files for Power system firmware updates in the / file system. Security fixes The applets provided by the management console are now being signed by a valid code signing certificate, to ensure that the applets meet the web browser security and sandbox requirements. Back to top <#ibm-content> Known issues in HMC V7 R7.5.0 This package has the following known issues: * If the Mover Service Partitions (MSPs) used in partition mobility operations have multiple IP addresses, then you may experience a significant performance degradation for partition migration operations, partition migration validation operations, and the *lslparmigr -r msp* command. This degradation is due to the additional connectivity tests performed between each pair of source and destination MSP IP addresses. *Workaround*: Turn off the MSP attribute on any VIOS partition that is not needed as an MSP for partition mobility operations. A workaround for partition migration and partition migration validation operations is to specify which source and destination MSP IP address you want to use for the operation (no defect - design issue to be addressed). * If you perform a restore of critical console data immediately following a fresh installation via Option 1, at the end of the install, you will get the following error: "A critical error occurred during the recovery of archive data. The system may be unstable. . . . Failing Component: TASK_RESTORECCD" *Workaround*: Install the V7 R7.5.0 recovery media, and then immediately install the mandatory PTF MH01312. After the HMC has rebooted, the critical console data can be restored by selecting the "HMC Management" menu, and then the "Restore HMC Data" submenu. PTF MH01312 is required in order to restore the HMC backup data successfully. Back to top <#ibm-content> Web browser requirements The following browsers have been tested.
