Installing Rational DOORS 9.3.0.x
If you already have Rational DOORS, the version that you have (i.e. whether it is patched or unpatched)
does not affect the way in which Rational DOORS 9.3.0.3 is installed. In all cases Rational DOORS 9.3.0.3 is installed
into a new directory named Program Files\IBM\Rational\DOORS\9.3 by default. After successful installation, if your
current version of Rational DOORS is version 9.0 or after, it is removed from your system. If your current
version is prior to version 9.0, it remains on your system.
Important: If you have customized the addins.idx file, back it up before you upgrade.
When you upgrade to Rational DOORS 9.3.0.3, the current version of addins.idx is overwritten.
Note: When you install the Rational DOORS client on a Japanese language operating system, you must accept the default location.
If you are upgrading from 9.0, 9.1, or 9.2 you cannot install Rational DOORS 9.3.0.3 into the same directory as your
current Rational DOORS installation. If you try to do this the installation will fail.
Upgrading your integrations
When you upgrade from version 9.0, 9.1, or 9.2, and you want to run your integrations with Rational DOORS 9.3.0.3,
you need to uninstall and then reinstall them. There are a number of changes to the process you need to follow:
- IBM Rational DOORS for ClearCase Interface
This integration is no longer available as a separate
installer. It has now been added to the Rational DOORS client installer, and is a Custom option during the
installation procedure. Select the option, and the integration is installed automatically.
- IBM Rational DOORS for Rational Rose Interface
This integration is no longer available as a separate
installer. It has now been added to the Rational DOORS client installer, and is a Custom option during the
installation procedure. Select the option, and the integration is installed automatically.
- IBM Rational DOORS for Rational Quality Manager Interface
This integration is a Custom option during the installation procedure.
When you are upgrading the integration the previous information about the integration
(RQM Server, RQM User, and so on) is entered automatically.
Although the RQM Password is entered automatically, you must re-enter it.
- IBM Rational DOORS for HP Quality Center Interface
This integration is available as a separate installer; the latest version is version 3.4.0.2,
which is available from IBM Fix Central. The installation procedure for the integration has not
changed. However, please note that when you upgrade the integration to run with Rational DOORS 9.3.0.3,
you can no longer use or create data connections to 8.3 databases.
- IBM Rational DOORS Change
This integration is now installed automatically when
you install the Rational DOORS client.
For information about installing and upgrading Rational DOORS 9.3.0.3, see the Installation information in the
Rational DOORS Information Center.

Obtaining a license for Rational DOORS
If this is your first installation of Rational DOORS, you need to obtain a license from
IBM. You also need to install version 1.3, 1.4, 1.5 or 2.0 of the Rational License Server
TL or version 8.1.1 of the Rational License Key Server.
For information about how to obtain a license from IBM, and how to install the Rational
License Server TL, see the Rational License Server TL Licensing Guide in the
Rational License Server TL Information Center. For information about the Rational License Key Server,
see the Rational Common Licensing information.
If you are already running Rational DOORS, the action you need to take depends on the version of Rational DOORS
you are running, and whether you have a valid maintenance agreement:
- If you are upgrading from Rational DOORS 8.2 or 8.3, and you have a valid maintenance agreement,
you do not need a new license to install and run Rational DOORS 9.3.
- If you are upgrading from Rational DOORS 8.2 or 8.3, and do not have a valid maintenance agreement,
a message is displayed:
The FEATURE name Rational DOORS with version 2010.0913 cannot be found.
License server does not support this version of the feature
If this message is displayed, you need to obtain a new license.
- If you are upgrading from a version of Rational DOORS earlier than 8.2, you need a new license
to run Rational DOORS, and you also need to install version 2.0 of the Rational
License Server TL.

Supported releases
Patch 9.3.0.3 is a client patch for Rational DOORS 9.3 on Windows and a server patch for Rational DOORS 9.3
on all platforms.
You can apply this patch to a machine that already has a previous version of Rational DOORS.
If you have 9.x already installed, it is overwritten, and Rational DOORS is upgraded. If it is an
earlier version (for example, v8.x or v7.x), v9.3.0.3 is installed in parallel with your
current version.
You can also install this patch on a machine where Rational DOORS has not previously been installed.

What's new in version 9.3.0.0
- Integrating with products using OSLC and Rational Workbench for Collaborative Lifecycle Management
Open Services for Lifecycle Collaboration (OSLC) web services allow you to integrate Rational DOORS
with IBM Rational Jazz-based and other third-party solutions. It provide generic integrations to
Change Management (CM) systems starting with IBM Rational Change.
- Heightened security with SSL communication, smart card authentication and control over DXL customizations
More and more organizations use Rational DOORS for more than just requirements; they also use it as the
organization's information store. This release of Rational DOORS provides a mechanism to protect customer
investment in information systems. In response to this need, Rational DOORS has introduced three components
to heighten security:
- Support for SSL communications, which make communication
between the Rational DOORS client and database server even more secure than it is currently.
- Support for certificate based authentication to offer PKI technology to govern
authentication to Rational DOORS. This PKI technology provides support for generic smart card
technology to authenticate to Rational DOORS.
- Control and governance over which customizations can be executed within your organization.
DXL is powerful and allows you to customize Rational DOORS in many different ways. Where you
want to control which customizations can be deployed, you can control which extensions can be used.
- Enhanced document generation
Rational DOORS now offers improved document generation using common IBM reporting technology. You can now
use Rational Publishing Engine to export Rational DOORS modules to Microsoft Word, PDF and HTML.
- New translated versions of Rational DOORS
Today's enterprises need to coordinate globally distributed project teams in order to achieve
the goals of their development strategy. Many companies have experienced a high degree of project
failure due to communication and interpretation issues. Global projects require local language
support to enable geographically dispersed development teams to work more efficiently.
To respond to the increased needs of the business and IT community for localized versions
of Rational DOORS and Rational DOORS Web Access, IBM Rational has expanded its current offerings in
English, Japanese, and Simplified Chinese, and now offers additional languages: French, German, and Russian.
- Installers
The Rational DOORS client installer has been amended to allow users to choose whether to install
just the Rational DOORS client, or to install the Rational DOORS client along with a number of
integrations. The following are now integrated into the Rational DOORS client installer:
- Rational DOORS for ClearCase Interface
- Rational DOORS for Rational Rose Interface
- Eclipse-based Online Help
Rational DOORS provides Eclipse-based Online Help, giving you interactive assistance to learn about
the software and to complete tasks successfully. You can find most forms of assistance on the Help menu.
Context-sensitive Help is available using the Help button on the dialog box. The context-sensitive Help provides
assistance to allow you to complete the task you are performing. It also contains links to the Rational
DOORS Information Center, which contains more general assistance on the task you are performing, along with
comprehensive information about using Rational DOORS.
The Rational DOORS Information Center also contains links to PDFs containing information about using DXL and
using the Rational DOORS integrations.
The Eclipse environment also gives you the freedom to print out a selected section of Help topics. With a
PDF distiller, you can also print your topics directly to PDF.
Help draws content from the web dynamically. With this remote Help, you always have the latest content
available from within your product. Rational DOORS also has Help content installed locally on your computer.
If you are using Rational DOORS in an environment with restricted access to the web, system administrators
can access the latest Help and download it manually. For more information, see the Using the Help topics
in the Information Center.

What's new in 9.3.0.1
- Integrating with products using OSLC and Rational Workbench for Collaborative Lifecycle Management
Rational DOORS 9.3 provided Open Services for Lifecycle Collaboration (OSLC) web services,
which allowed you to integrate Rational DOORS with IBM Rational Jazz-based and other third-party
solutions. Initially, you could integrate with IBM Rational Change. You can now also
integrate with IBM Rational Team Concert and IBM Rational ClearQuest.
- Additional smart card authentication
The support for smart card authentication delivered in Rational DOORS 9.3 has been extended.
Version 9.3.0.1 supports Operating System user support, where the user authenticates in Windows
with a card that contains the user's Distinguished Name (DN). The Rational DOORS administrator can
use the DN to associate the user with Rational DOORS. When the user starts Rational DOORS, a check
is carried out to match the user's Windows DN with the DN that stored in Rational DOORS. If there is a match,
access is granted. There is no need to prompt for a PIN number.
- New translated versions of Rational DOORS
Rational DOORS now offers additional languages: Brazilian Portuguese, Italian,
Korean, Spanish, and Traditional Chinese.
- Changing the language Rational DOORS runs in
Rational DOORS displays in the language of the locale set on your machine. If you want
Rational DOORS to display in a different language every time you start it up,
you can set the ICULOCALE environment variable. Enter pt_BR for Brazilian Portuguese,
de for German, es for Spanish, fr for French, it for Italian, ja_JP for Japanese,
ko for Korean, zh for Simplified Chinese, zh_TW for Traditional Chinese, ru for Russian,
and root for English.
- Support for the IBM Rational License Key Server
Rational DOORS is now compatible with IBM Rational License Key Server v8.1.1.
For information about the Rational License Key Server,
see the Rational Common Licensing information.
- Sorting
Sorting in Rational DOORS now supports unicode characters.
- Updates to IBM Rational DOORS Change Management integration
- You can now pre-fill any attribute on an Implementation Request submit form.
- When you configure a module, you can now designate links as unmanaged.
What's new in 9.3.0.2
- Update to IBM Rational DOORS Change Management integration
The Rational DOORS Change Management integration now supports OAuth for authentication.
The new authentication mechanism is supported for both Rational Team Concert and Rational ClearQuest.

Limitations
Exporting using Rational Reporting for Document Generation when running Rational DOORS 8.x and 9.x.
If you are running a Rational DOORS 8.x client and a Rational DOORS 9.x client on the same machine,
and you export a module using Rational Reporting for Document Generation, the export does not work.
Rational DOORS for Rational Quality Manager Interface, the Redirector Service, and the URL prefix "http"
The Redirector Service is an optional service that allows users to choose whether to open
Rational DOORS URLs in a standard Rational DOORS client using the URL prefix "doors"
or in a web client using the URL prefix "http". Before you use the Redirector Service, you need to note
that if you set up your system to use the URL prefix "http", the Rational DOORS for Rational
Quality Manager Interface will not work.
Rational Team Concert, OSLC, and the URL prefix "doors"
You cannot use OSLC web services to integrate Rational DOORS with Rational Team Concert if the
Rational DOORS URL prefix is "doors". You can change the Rational DOORS URL prefix using the Redirector Service.
However, if you change the DOORS URL prefix to "http", the Rational DOORS for Rational Quality Manager Interface
will not work.
Spelling checker
There may be some languages supplied with the spelling checker, for example
Russian that do not supply alternative text when errors are detected during
a spelling check.
When you set up the options for checking spelling in certain languages, a
Modes panel is displayed on the Options dialog box. In some languages the
modes that are available are meaningless. For example, if the selected language
is Russian, the modes Je and Jo are displayed.
These issues are a result of limitations in the third party software used
by Rational DOORS to provide spelling checker capabilities.
Hidden text
Rational DOORS does not support hidden text. For example, if you copy text including
hidden text from Microsoft Word and paste it into a Rational DOORS module, the text
that is displayed in the module explorer is different to that displayed in
the object.
