1.0 About this release
This release
contains updates for the version 8.1.3 release of
IBM Rational® License
Key Server. The daemon versions for this release are as follows:
- lmgrd 11.10
- ibmratl 11.10
Rational License Key Server Version 8.1.3 is compatible with earlier
versions of the client products that use
Rational Common Licensing from
earlier releases.
2.0 Installation information
This
section describes the installation requirements and specific installation
instructions for this release. For more information about installing
Rational License Key Server version 8.13, administering license servers,
and license keys, see the
IBM Rational Software Information
Center..
2.1 Hardware requirements
There
are no additional processor or memory requirements for installing
this release.
2.3
Installing Rational License
Key Server, Version 8.1.3
Microsoft Windows operating systems.
Requirements for installing Rational License Key Server
on Windows.- The Windows server must
have a C:\drive.
- You must have Windows administrator privileges on the local computer.
Use IBM Installation
Manager to install the Rational License Key Server. Information about installation is available
in the IBM Rational Software Information
Center.
Note: - You cannot upgrade from an earlier release of Rational License Key Server. If you have
Rational® License Server 7.1 or earlier installed, you must uninstall
the license server before installing Rational License Key Server 8 or later.
You cannot upgrade license servers versions 7.1 or earlier to version
8 or later.
- Rational License Key
Server version 8 or later cannot be on the same machine as IBM Rational Common License version 7.1 or earlier
and IBM Rational License Server TL 2.0
- You can upgrade Rational License Key Server version 8.1.1 to versions 8.1.2 and 8.1.3.
To download Rational License
Key Server on Windows:
- Go to Rational Support: Downloads and upgrades.
- Locate Rational License Key Server in the product name list, and then
click Continue.
- Depending on how you purchased your software and your maintenance
agreement, select a link to Passport Advantage® Online, IBM Software
Group OEM portal, or the Rational Product
Release area.
- Select Rational License Key Server Version 8.1.3 eAssembly and follow
the instructions for download.
- Extract the compressed file in an appropriate directory. For example,
choose to extract to C:\temp.
To install Rational License
Key Server on Windows: - Log in as a user with administrator rights on the local computer
on which you want to install the product.
- Extract the installation files for Rational License Key Server. The extracted
files are the repository for Rational License Key Server. The installation
files include Installation
Manager. You do not need to download Installation
Manager separately.
- Navigate to the //windows/disk1 directory.
- Double-click launchpad.exe. The IBM Rational License Key Server splash screen
opens.
- Click IBM Rational License Key Server version to open the Installation
Manager interface. Installation
Manager is not installed.
- Select both Installation
Manager and Rational License Key Server; then click Next.
Note: The installation of Rational License Key Server requires Installation
Manager to be installed.
- Click Next after the prerequisites are
validated. To validate prerequisites again, click Recheck
Status located in the lower right corner.
- Accept the license agreement; then click Next.
- For both the Shared Resources directory and Installation
Manager directory locations, either accept the default value or
enter a different directory location; then click Next.
Important: You cannot change the location of the Shared
Resources directory after Installation
Manager is installed.
The default values are as follows:
- Shared Resources directory: C:\Program Files\IBM\IMShared
- Installation
Manager directory: C:\Program Files\IBM\Installation
Manager\eclipse
- Accept the default installation directory for the license server
or enter a different installation directory. The default installation
directory is: C:\Program Files\IBM\RationalRLKS.
- Select additional languages to install; then click Next.
- Review the features to install; then click Next.
- Click Install.
- Click Finish.
License files that you use with Rational Common Licensing versions
7.1.x and earlier or IBM Rational License
Server TL version 2.0 must be migrated to the Rational Common Licensing version
8.1.3 required format. The format requires: VENDOR ibmratl as the vendor line. You can use the License Migration Utility to
migrate the license files. The utility is included with Rational Common Licensing version
8.1.3.
To migrate license files on Windows:
- At a command prompt, go to the Rational Common
Licensing common directory. The default location for the common directory
is: C:\Program Files\IBM\RationalRLKS\common.
- Run the licmigrationutil.cmd command.
- Enter the path to the license file. You must include the license
file name in the path.
- Press Enter. The license file is updated.
UNIX platforms.
Requirements for installing Rational License Key Server on UNIX platforms:
You must have your
license key file when you install the IBM Rational License
Key Server. Go to the Rational® License Key Center to order your
permanent license keys. See Use the IBM Rational License Key
Center to obtain license keys for more information about the Rational License Key Center.
The Rational License
Key Center sends the license file to an email account when you request
a license. The name of the license file has this format: license_for_server.upd. You must have the license file filename.upd stored in a known location, such as the $HOME directory, on the license server.
You do not have to install
the license server as root. If you do install the server as root,
you will receive a message that indicates a possible security risk
during the installation process. Attempts could be made to access
the lmgrd process through its TCP/IP port and run other programs
with root permissions.
Use IBM Installation
Manager to install the Rational License Key Server. Information about installation is available
in the IBM Rational Software Information
Center .
To download Rational License
Key Server on UNIX platforms:
- Go to the IBM site
for Rational Support: Downloads and upgrades.
- Locate Rational License Key Server in the product name list, and then
click Continue.
- Depending on how you purchased your software and your maintenance

Group OEM portal, or the Rational Product
Release area.

- Click IBM Rational License Key Server version to open the Installation

- Select both Installation
Manager and Rational License Key Server; then click Next.
Note: The installation of Rational License Key Server requires Installation
Manager to be installed.
- After the prerequisites are validated, click Next. To validate
prerequisites again, click Recheck Status located
in the lower-right corner. Four validation checks occur automatically
during the prerequisite step:
- A check that all applications are closed and that your antivirus
software is disabled.
- A check on whether you are installing as a root user. If you install
as a root user, you will receive a warning message. Click Show Details to receive more information and instructions
on next steps.
- A check on whether earlier versions of Rational or Telelogic license key servers
are installed. If older versions are installed, you will receive a
warning message. Click Show Details to receive
more information and instructions on next steps.
- A check on whether earlier versions of Rational or Telelogic license key servers
are running. If older versions are running, you will receive a warning
message. Click Show Details to receive more
information and instructions on next steps.
- Accept the license agreement; then click Next.
- For both the Shared Resources directory and Installation
Manager directory locations, either accept the default value or
enter a different directory location; then click Next.
Important: You cannot change the location of the Shared
Resources directory after
Installation
Manager is installed.
The default values are as follows:
- Shared Resources directory: /opt/IBM/IBMIM
- Installation
Manager directory: /opt/IBM/Installation Manager/eclipse
- Accept the default installation directory for the license server
or enter a different installation directory. The default installation
directory is: /opt/IBM/RationalRLKS.
- Select additional languages to install; then click Next.
- Review the features to install; then click Next.
- Enter the absolute path to the license file and the port number
for the license server; then click Next.
Note: Two validation checks occur during the configuration step. If you
have entered an invalid license file, you receive an error message
at the top of the page. If you enter an invalid port number, you receive
an error message at the top of the page.
- Click Install.
- Click Finish.
Note: License files used with Rational Common Licensing versions 7.1.x and earlier or IBM Rational License Server TL version 2.0 must
be migrated to the Rational Common Licensing version 8.1.3 required format. The format requires VENDOR ibmratl as the vendor line. You can use the License
Migration Utility to migrate the license files. The utility is included
with Rational Common Licensing
version 8.1.3.
To migrate license files on UNIX platforms:
- At a command prompt, go to the Rational Common Licensing common directory. The default location
for the common directory is: install_dir/config/migrationutility.
- Run the ./licmigrationutil.sh command.
- Enter the path to the license file. You must include the license
file name in the path.
- Press Enter. The license file is updated.
2.4 Updating Rational License Key Server,
Version 8.1.3
Windows .
- Log in as a user with administrator rights on the local computer
on which you intend to update Rational License Key Server.
- Extract the installation files for Rational License Key Server. The extracted
files are the repository for Rational License Key Server.
- Navigate to the disk1 directory.
- Double-click launchpad.exe. The IBM Rational License Key Server splash screen
opens.
- Click Install or Update IBM Rational License Key Server to open the Installation
Manager interface. Installation
Manager opens.
- Click .
- Select the package group for IBM Rational License Key Server; then click Next.
- Verify that Version 8.1.3 is selected; then click Next.
- Click Next after the prerequisites are
validated. To validate prerequisites again, click Recheck
Status located in the lower-right corner.
- Accept the license agreement; then click Next.
- Review the features to install; then click Next.
- Review the summary information; then click Update.
- Click Finish.
UNIX plaforms.
- Navigate to the disk1 directory.
- Extract the installation files for Rational License Key Server. The extracted
files are the repository for Rational License Key Server.
- Run launchpad.sh. The IBM Rational License Key Server splash screen opens.
- Click Install or Update Rational
License Key Server to open the Installation
Manager interface. Installation
Manager opens.
- Click Update.
- Select the package group for IBM Rational License
Key Server 8.1.3; then click Next.
- Verify that version 8.1.3 is selected; then click Next.
- Click Next after the prerequisites are
validated. To validate prerequisites again, click Recheck
