Status LED not flashing

If you are using the USB flash drive to initialize the system for the first time and the status LED is not flashing, use the following instructions to resolve this issue.

About this task

If the status LED on the node canister that you are initializing is not flashing at a regular rate, the system cannot be initialized until this condition is resolved. The regular rate of flashing for the status LED is approximately one half second on and one half second off. Complete the following steps until the status LED is flashing at the regular rate:
Note: Unless stated, all the checks and actions are completed on the rear of the enclosure. Do not disturb any wiring or other equipment while you complete these tasks.

Procedure

  1. Ensure that you are looking at a control enclosure that you want to initialize and not a different machine type or an expansion enclosure.
The following diagram shows the rear of the control enclosure:
    Rear view of enclosure
    •  1  Node canister 1 and 2
    •  2  Power supply unit 1 and 2
A control enclosure has two node canisters side by side and two power supplies underneath. The canisters in the control enclosure can be distinguished from the canisters in an expansion enclosure by the extra Ethernet ports, USB ports, and the battery LEDs. If this is the correct enclosure, proceed to step 2.

If this is not the correct control enclosure, determine where the correct control enclosure is installed. Click Cancel and continue with the system initialization wizard on the correct control enclosure.

System initialization is only required to occur on one control enclosure.

  2. Ensure that the node canister is powered on by locating the power LED indicators ( 1 ) on the node canister that you are initializing.
This image shows the rear of the control enclosure with node canister LEDs highlighted.
The green power LED (The green power LED.) should be permanently on (not flashing or off). If the green power LED is on, continue to the Step 3.

If the power LED on the node canister is flashing, the canister is still powering on. However, if the power LED is flashing for 5 minutes after you applied power to the enclosure, there is a problem with the canister. See Resolving problems with a node canister for information.

If the power LED is off, check the power indicators ( 1 ) on the power supply units.

This figure shows the LEDs on the power supply unit
Ensure that the DC power LED (This icon shows the DC power LED on the power supply unit.) is on for at least one power supply unit. If the DC power LED (This icon shows the DC power LED on the power supply unit.) is lit, continue to the next step. If the DC power LED and the AC power LED (This icon shows the AC power LED on the power supply unit.) are not lit and the fault LED (This icon shows the fault LED on the power supply unit.) is not lit, trace the power cables back to the power source to ensure that they are fully inserted into the power supplies and the rack power distribution units. Ensure that all rack power distribution units are on and receiving power, then check the DC power LED (This icon shows the DC power LED on the power supply unit.) again.

If the fault LED is lit on both power supply units or both units have their AC power LED on but not their DC power LED on, you must replace the power supply units before you can use this enclosure. Contact the support center for new power supply units.

  3. On the node canister, check the status LED (This icon shows the status LED.). There are three options:

If it is flashing, the node canister is ready for initialization. Close the help and return to the initialization wizard to continue with system initialization.

If the status LED is on permanently, the system has already initialized. Proceed to the next step.

If the status LED is not lit and is not flashing, then the node canister is still starting and is not ready for system initialization. After the node canister is powered on, it can take up to 10 minutes for thenode canister to be ready for system initialization. Wait for the node canister to be ready for system initialization before you repeat this step. If power has been on for at least 10 minutes and the status LED remains off, there is a problem with the canister. See Resolving problems with a node canister for information.

  4. On the node canister, check the status LED (This icon shows the status LED.). If the status LED is not permanently on, return to the first step in this process. When the status LED is permanently on, it indicates that the system is initialized. If you are following these instructions to reinitialize a system that you already used, determine the status of the system and fully reset the system.

To work with the initialized system, open a supported web browser and enter the IP address that you specified during the initialization wizard. Log on to the system and continue with system configuration by completing the system setup wizard.

Note: You are required to initialize only one of the canisters in the enclosure; the other canister initializes automatically.
