Working with resources
These example tasks illustrate how you can manage resources
using the CICS Explorer™.
You must be connected to a CICS® Transaction Server for z/OS® version
4 or later to edit or perform actions against resources. CICS and CICSPlex® SM
resources are displayed in resource views. Each resource view displays
a single type of resource, for example the File view displays only
file resources and the Program Definition view displays only program
definition resources.
- Adding resource definitions to a group
This example task shows you how to use IBM® CICS
Explorer to add one or more CICS resource
definitions to a group.
- Browsing and editing resources
When you are connected to your CICSplex or CICS system, you can view and edit the system
resources. If you are connected to a CICS system,
the resources displayed in the views are the resources in that system.
If you are connected to a CICSplex, the resources displayed in the
views will depend on the browse scope you have set.
- Creating resources
You use the New wizard in CICS Explorer to create resource definitions
that can then be installed in one or more active CICS systems. You enter the basic details needed
to create the resource using the New wizard and then add additional
information using the editor. You must be connected to a CICS version 4 system to create resource definitions.
- Enabling and disabling resources
This example task shows you how to use IBM CICS
Explorer to enable or disable a resource.
- Loading a new copy of a program or document template
This example task shows you how to use IBM CICS
Explorer to refresh a program or a document template with a new
copy.
- Navigating to related resources
You can navigate from one resource to other related resources,
using the CICS Explorer.
For example, from the Local Transaction view you can select a transaction,
and open the related program in the editor for viewing or updating.
- Performing actions against a resource
You can perform actions against CICSPlex SM or CICS resources when you are connected to a CICS version 4 system, using the CICS Explorer. The actions
you can perform are dependent on the resource selected.
- Updating resource definitions
This example task shows you how to use the CICS Explorer to
update a resource definition in a CICS version
4 system.
