Use the Preferences Connections window to set connection
and authentication settings for your CICSplex.
The Preferences Connections window contains
a number of fields that provide information to the
CICS Explorer™ to
tell it how to connect to your CICSplex. If you have previously connected
to a CICSplex, the information you provided in the Connections Preferences
window is saved and re-displayed next time you open the window.

- Type
- The type of the system. Values are CICSPlex® SM for connection
to CICS® version 3 CICSPlex SM WUI server, or CICS
Management Interface for connection to a CICS version 4 system.
- Name
- The local name used to identify this connection. The name can
be anything you choose and is only used to help you distinguish between
different connections.
- Host name
- The TCP/IP host name of your CICSPlex SM
WUI server or your stand-alone CICS region.
This is the value specified in the WUI server initialization parameter TCPIPHOSTNAME
- Port number
- The port used to access the server.
- Userid
- Your authorized userid for the system.
- Password
- Your password for the system. If you enter your password, the CICS Explorer saves it
for the next time you log in. If you leave this field blank, you will
be asked to enter your password when the connection is attempted.
When all the information has been entered, click Apply to
connect to the CICSplex and leave the Preferences Connections window
open. Alternatively, click OK to connect and close the Preferences
Connections window. If you have not provided your password, the Signon
dialog will be displayed and you must enter your password before the CICS Explorer will
connect to your CICSplex.
You can click Restore Defaults to
restore the fields to the default values set by your organization.
