Installing the information center

Use these instructions to install the information center locally.

Before you begin

The information center supports Microsoft Internet Explorer versions 7.0 or 8.0 and Mozilla Firefox version 3.6. To ensure that all the functions of the information center are usable, you must enable cookies and JavaScript in the browser and disable the browser's function of blocking pop-up windows.

About this task

Windows and Linux operating system versions of the information center are included on disk for your convenience.

Procedure

  1. Copy the ibm_help_win.zip or ibm_help_lin.tar file from the documentation CD to a directory on your local system.
  2. Extract the contents of the ibm_help_win.zip or ibm_help_lin.tar file.
  3. Navigate to the ibm_help_win or ibm_help_lin directory.
  4. Run the help_start.bat or the help_start.sh file. For Linux, you need to type: ./help_start.sh Your default browser opens and displays the information center without any content.
  5. Stop the information center by closing the browser window and running the help_end.bat or help_end.sh script. For Linux, you need to type ./help_end.sh in a new terminal window to ensure that the information center stops.

Updating the local information center

Your locally installed version of the documentation can be updated as new documentation becomes available if you have an Internet connection. Other products might also have updated documentation that you can pull into your local information center.

About this task

To update the documentation, complete the following steps:

Procedure

  1. Click Update in the help system toolbar. You see a list of any documentation sets that are already installed.
  2. Click Next at the bottom of the installed documentation list.
  3. Select the documentation that you want to install.
    Tip: You can select more than one set of documentation.
  4. Click Install Updates.
  5. Click Finish when the installation is finished. You do not need to restart the help system because it refreshes automatically.

Results

The documentation for the product or products you selected is installed in the help system on your computer.
